Overview
Antisana is a majestic and mysterious volcano in the Eastern Cordillera, with an altitude of 5758 meters above sea level, which is why it is considered the fourth highest mountain in Ecuador.
It is the core of this protected area within which there are eastern Andean moors and forests. Volcanic activity, the passage and retreat of glaciers and evolution have created impressive landscapes and a very diverse fauna in its territory.
Itinerary
We will leave at 08:00 a.m. from the hotel to the base of Ruco Pichincha in our private car, upon arrival we will take the cable car to 4,100 meters above sea level; Here we will have a panoramic view of Quito and the other Andean peaks in the area. We will have a walk of approximately 3 hours through the mountain. Total tour time: 6 hours. -/L/D.
Leaving our lodge at 10:00 am, we will head to Cotopaxi National Park. Upon entering the park, we will head towards the Limpiopungo lagoon where we will begin our ascent to the Rumiñahui volcano; It will take us about 3 hours to reach the top. This volcano is very rocky and inclined, for this reason we will put on our safety equipment; When we finally reach the top, we will have a fantastic view of Cotopaxi: tomorrow's goal. Next, we will descend to the Paja Blanca shelter, where we will spend the night. B/L/D.
We will leave Quito around 10:00 am. In our private 4x4 vehicle we headed east to begin our ascent to Antisana. After a 3-hour trip, we will arrive at a campsite to rest until midnight. Then we will have an appetizing lunch, and we will receive a short talk about all the safety precautions and climbing technique that the guides can give us. We will have dinner at 6:00 pm and then go to rest until 12:00 am for the climb. B/L/D.
We will wake up, and we will climb to the top; which is at 5,753 m. It will take us approximately 5 to 6 hours to reach the summit; When we arrive we can enjoy a great view of the Ecuadorian mountains. It will take us about 2 to 3 hours to return to the campsite where we will collect all our equipment and have breakfast then return to our car, and return to Quito. B/L/D.
